Why we chose this topic:
Last year, we learned about the history of America and how our country began, which led us to learn about the Declaration of Independence and the events that led up to it. So, when the topic this year was turning points in history, right away we knew we wanted to choose the Declaration of Independence as it is obviously an extreme turning point in history I feel that it is important to know about the declaration of independence and study it because it is how America began. Without it, we would most likely still be part of Britain today.
How we conducted our research:
First, we went to the school library and spent three days on our laptops finding reliable sources and citing them on Noodlebib. We took pages of descriptive notes, checking them over and making sure they are accurate. Afterwards, we consulted our librarian and found three books that were perfect for our reading level and contained the information needed. These books were very useful and added more pages to our growing collection of notes. With nine cites and three books, we were overwhelmed with informative information to conduct our website.
How we created and developed our exhibit:
Our group decided to create a website as we feel it will represent the Declaration of Independence in the best manner. We went to Weebly.com and created a website. We filled in all of the required fields with great information from our notes on why the Declaration of Independence is a turning point in history. We also included background research of the Declaration of Independence to show more examples on why it is so important. Later, we went back into the website and put decorations and appropriate pictures relating to our topic to make our exhibit look cleaner and more professional. The pictures also gave better ways to view the Declaration of Independence and what happened during that time period. We sent some of our adult family members the link to look at our website and give us any constructive criticism that would make our website better. We also asked them to look for any grammatical errors that we may have missed.
How our project relates to the theme:
Our project relates to the theme, turning points in history, in many ways. The Declaration of Independence was the formal document that declared our nation, the United States of America, independent. It is the start to new states, united people and economic growth. Without this document America would not be this prosperous successful country like it is today. This is a turning point in history because without the Declaration of Independence America would still be under the power of Britain today.
