Battle of Bunker HIll:
The Battle of Bunker Hill took place in 1775 and occurred when the British generals were planning to send troops from the city of Boston to take control of the unoccupied hills surrounding the city. In response to this 1,200 colonial troops under the command of William Prescott went up to Bunker Hill so that they were prepared for frontal attack from the British. Each side charges up Bunker Hill, forms lines, and takes turns shooting. They shoot from their positions but colonists are forced to retreat because they only have a little bit of gun powder for three charges. The British suffer more losses than the colonists in the end. This battle proves to the British that the colonists can fight and are willing to stand up to the British army. It also gets the French to ally with them.
Lexington & Concord
In April 19, 1775, the Battles of Lexington and Concord are what started the American Revolutionary War. About 700 British soldiers were given orders to capture and destroy the military supplies that were reportedly stored by the Massachusetts militia at Concord. Colonists had received word weeks before the expedition that their supplies might be at risk and had moved most of them to other places. The first shots were fired just as the sun was rising at Lexington. The militia was outnumbered and was forced to retreat. More militiamen arrived soon and caused heavy damage on the British as they marched back towards Boston.
Battles of saratoga
From September to October of 1777 in Canada, The Battles of Saratoga created a turning point in the war. Burgoyne, the British leader, and his men come in from the South. The colonists begin to take advantage of the British by tracking and following their every move. The colonists draw them to a clearing where they know the British will camp. The colonists, who are now accompanied by the French, dress in leather and buckskins which is like a camouflage. The British basically walk into the trap because we hide in the trees and surround them. We ambush them and win this battle by using our knowledge of the land and the French support.
